These Hopi matching vases measure 4.75" x 10", native clay and paints, excellent condition, made by Nampeyo of Hano, c. 1905.
This is a rare find indeed. We have never seen a matching pair of anything by Nampeyo! The vases bear Nampeyo's characteristic Sikyatki, avian designs.
Nampeyo is one of 3 legendary Native potters. The other two are Maria Martinez of San Ildefonso Pueblo, the best known, and Margaret Tafoya of Santa Clara Pueblo. Nampeyo's body of work shows the greatest creative range.
