Classic Striped Blanket

Classic Striped Blanket updated

SOLD

This is a Late Classic Navajo wearing blanket. The dimensions are 55" x 70", handspun, native yarn, indigo blue, analine green and red, excellent condition, c. 1870's, artist unknown.

Striped wearing blankets were "day to day" wear for Navajos. The more strongly ornamental blankets get all the attention and glory and it is well deserved. However, the striped blankets were what The People wore daily and typically wore out.

NOTE!!! The circle appearing on the left side of the center band is a photographic anomaly, not damage to the textile.

The wonder is that it survived the gauntlet of time and use in this condition. This piece reveals little wear.
