This is a Zia Pueblo chili bowl. The dimensions are 4.5" x 8", c. 1910, very good condition with ethnographic wear.
This is what these chili bowls are all about for me. This one was used in the home of a Zia Pueblo family in the early 20th century and it had chili in it! The generous spirit of the Pueblo people manifests in numerous feast days each year with every family preparing vast amounts of food to give away. Friends and neighbors drop by and eat and eat. This is one of the bowls the prized chili would have been served in.
