The Skies by Master Weaver Mary AnnFoster
This Navajo rug measures 62" x 62", all natural wool, woven by Master Weaver Mary Ann Foster, (1926-).
This is another master piece by a Master Weaver. "The Skies" is Sand-painting image depicting the four directions. This is a Sand-painting Mary Ann has not woven often, to my knowledge but it is very well conceived and executed. She makes some artistic choices with the imagery to which she is completely entitled. For example, the "Moon" image, bottom center, right, does not have a corresponding "Sun" image. If you have been weaving Navajo mythology for 70 years, go for it!
The brown and gold wool in this rug is especially enjoyable.
