Florentino & Martina, c.1910
This San Ildefonso olla measures 9.5" x 12", native clay and paints, excellent conditon, c. 1910, attributed to Florentino Montoya and Martina Vigil.
Florentino & Martina were considered the best potters in the village by Maria Martinez. To that point, we sold a c. 1900 Maria polychrome with an almost identical shape as this jar. The shape, color choices and design details make for a certain attribution.
This jar features two avian images with the third section being a Kiva image with clouds below. The meandering detail on the inner and outer rims gives definition to the neck.
