Crystal Variant, c. 1910's

Price: $4,500.00

This Navajo rug measures 55" x 86", hand-spun yarn, undyed, natural yarn, c. 1910's, very good condition, artist unknown.

This rug was woven in the Toadlena/Two Grey Hills region on the opposite side of the Chuska Mountains. It bears the influence of two J.B. Moore Catalog Plates, Plate XXVIII and Plate XXX. The weaver interpreted them as she pleased which was common at the time. The Crystal Plates marked the beginning of the "orientalized" Navajo rug and they were faithfully duplicated in other regions, especially the Toadlena/Two Grey Hills. As time, artistic instinct and market demand proceeded, weavers began to do their own variations of these templates. That is exactly what this rug is.
