Price: $4,600.00

This Chinle rug measures 57" x 80", hand-spun, hand-dyed yarn, the white background is natural, all other colors are dyed, excellent condition, c. 1930's, artist unknown.

Mary Cabot Wheelwright, founder of the Wheelwright Museum, was instrumental in the "Chinle revival" of the 1930's. This rug is an excellent example of that work. Chinle rugs are directly derivative of the Classic Navajo blankets, typically featuring five panels.

The wool in this rug is as soft as a blanket, most likely Merino.
