Helen Cordero Storyteller
This Cochiti storyteller measures, 4.5" x 9.5", native clay and paints, excellent condition, by Helen Cordero 1915-1994.
Helen is considered one of the premier 20th century native potters, she was the first to make "Storytellers." All of her Storytellers are male, representing the Grandfathers who traditionally shared the ancient stories with the children.
This piece generously features 12 children astride the Grandfather. His squash-blossom necklace and belt are especially enjoyable. It is an excellent example of her work.
