Margaret Tafoya of Santa Clara Pueblo is one of the three legendary Master Potters. Maria Martinez, the most famous, and Nampeyo of Hopi are the other two. Margaret's work is characteristically simple and soulful. This wedding vase is a wonderful example of her redware. The 90 degree angles in the Kiva steps and the 45 degree angle below stand in contrast to the more curvilinear designs she uses more frequently.
Margaret's body of work is smaller than Maria's or Nampeyo's, thus anything by Margaret is a real treat!
