Teec Nos Pos Yeibichei
This is a Navajo rug from the Teec Nos Pos region of Arizona. The dimensions are 48" x 89", handspun yarn, hand-dyed red, green, yellow, orange, turquoise and dark blue, all other colors natural; excellent condition, c. 1945, artist unknown.
This beautiful rug features a row of yeibichai's, humans dressed as deities. There are 12 figures in profile and one facing. The males have two feathers on their heads, the females have one; the males have turquoise and white heads, the females solid turquoise. There is a playful mixing of colors in the clothing with no apparent pattern.
The artist is unknown but this I have seen 6 rugs with the forked element that constitutes the border of this rug. It must be a signature element of a clan or family.
This rug is a real treasure!
**The rug is not misshapen; large rugs hang awkwardly when photographed.**
