c. 1920 Teec Nos Pos
SOLD
This is a Navajo rug from the Teec Nos Pos region of Arizona. The dimensions are 41" x 73", native handspun yarn, analine dyed red, orange, green and gray, excellent condition, artist unknown, c. 1920.
This is a masterpiece. The weaver exhibited excellent attention to detail in every way. The dyed yarns bear uniform coloration, the warp and weft counts exceed the standards of the day and the art displayed in the "eye-dazzler" design combine for a spectacular textile.
Interestingly, the border most likely travelled from the Toadlena/Two Grey Hills from Master Weaver Mary Yanabah Curley. Someone from Mary's family married into a Teec Nos Pos family. The border design Mary and her Bear Clan sisters frequently used was part of the exchange.
I waited four years for the previous owner decide to part with this wonderful piece of Navajo art.
