Dextra Quotskuvya Seed Jar

SOLD

This is a Hopi seed jar, 4.5" x 8", excellent condition, c. 1980's.

Dextra Quotskuvya made this seed jar. Dextra is the granddaughter of the Legendary Master Potter, Nampeyo. Dextra knew her Grandmother and seems to have inherited her creativity. The seed jar features a central solar element between two Kiva ladders. There are long, graceful avian figures on either side. All the design elements bear Dextra's trademark, impeccable execution.

Dextra is one of the premier potters of the mid to later 20th century. She is the subject of a book by Martha Hopkins Struever titled "Painted Perfection." The title tells the story of Dextra's pottery. It is known for the great attention to detail, fine finishes and wide creative range. A photo of the back is displayed to show her signature and more of the wonderful "blush" she achieves in her firing.

Marti Struever owned this seed jar and I would suggest reading the book if you wish to learn more about Dextra, her family and her Grandmother.

A copy of "Painted Perfection" will be included with the purchase of the jar.
Price: $6,800.00
