Maria & Popovi Da
SOLD
San Ildefonso dish, c. 1950's, 1" x 6.5", excellent condition, Maria Martinez and Popovi Da.
This Pueblo dish was made by the Legendary Master Potter Maria Martinez and her son, Popovi Da. Maria worked primarily with her husband, Julian, her son Popovi Da and her daughter-in-law Santana. The work by Maria and Popovi is frequently the most highly prized.
The dominant figure is the Pueblo serpent, Avanyu. Avanyu appears on many Maria pieces. Typically it is circular, so this 4 sided configuration is relatively unique. Avanyu's tongue and tail typically overlap, as in this piece.
The stand is included in the price of the piece.
