This piece is 24" x 56", c. 1910, excellent condition.
The beauty and value of this simple saddle blanket lies in what is NOT there. In it's day these were very common, typically used on horseback and thus worn out. The more ornamental weavings were considered more valuable and thus better cared for. 100 years later there are vastly fewer of these simple pieces around and the heavy use of negative space is hard to find.
Frequently the use of subltely different colors of the natural wool are interpreted as different landscape representations. I'll leave that interpretation to the viewer.
