Regional rug, c. 1910

This is a Navajo, regional rug, the dimensions are 47" x 77", c. 1910, handspun, natural wool and handspun analyne, handdyed wool, pristine condition. Weaver unknown.

This is a beautiful, brilliant Navajo rug from the early 20th century. The diamonds and half-diamonds reach back to the Transitional and Classic periods. The weaver used a border on each side of half diamonds that fold to the center to form full diamonds. This is from the Classic garment period. I see this as the weaver paying homage to her blanket weaving Mother, Grandmother and ancestors. This disappears almost completely by 1940.

The three rows of full diamonds are a Classic device especially with the grey used as the alternating color in the central row. This equates to the differentiated designs that would
have come down the side of the body.

Tough enough for the floor, beautiful enough for the wall.
Price: $3,800.00
