Nampeyo, c. 1907

Nampeyo, c. 1907

SOLD

This is a Hopi bowl made by the renowed potter, Nampeyo, 1860-1942. The dimensions are 2.25" x 8", excellent condition.

It was originally purchased in 1907 in Winslow, AZ by Gifford and Edna Gurley as a wedding gift. They had just married in October of 1907.

The "love-birds" are interpreted as Hummingbirds, sacred to the Hopi.

Nampeyo is one of the three most renowed Native potters, joined by Maria Martinez and Margaret Tafoya with that distinction.
