Navajo "Moki", c. 1870's
SOLD
This is a striped Navajo wearing garmetns from the 1870's. The dimensions are 39" x 67"; excellent condition. Handspun natural white and browns; handspun, indigo dyed blue; handspun analine dyed coral.
Any Classic wearing blanket from the 1870's and older is an aboriginal treasure, a simple striped blanket like this or a Serape masterpiece. These simple striped pieces were everyday wear and were typically worn out LONG ago. This piece is thick and warm. It would keep you alive on a freezing, desert night.
The wool in this blanket has the hand of the prized Spanish Churro with some of the new, incoming Merino wool.
I love the rugs but something the weaver made for her People is a different thing than something she wove for a white man's floor.
