Red Mesa c.1900

Red Mesa c.1900

SOLD

Navajo rug; Red Mesa region; c. 1900; 57" x 87"
Excellent condition. Tough and thick enough for the flool

This is a very early Red Mesa rug. The designs
walk right from the Transitional Period, 1880's to 1900, to the Regional Rug period, 1900 to present. The piece has characteristics of classic wearing garments, the converging half diamonds and the varied colors of the diamonds from center to the borders with another change on the diamonds between those. This is Clasic Serape sensibility reflected in one of the first Regional Rugs.

It is woven of very fine Merino wool, wonderfully silky.
