Bisti. c. 1950
SOLD
48" x 72"; c.1950; excellent condition
The Bisti weaving region is not well known. The weaving enjoyed only a short season near the Bisti Badlands of New Mexico. This is and excellent example featuring the curvilinear elements, checkerboard designs and a color pallette frequently used in this region.
Books on Navajo weaving typically omit Bisti in a listing of the Navajo weaving regions. However, I had a conversation with Navajo Trader, Bruce Burnham, and he told me his family owned the Bisti Trading Post from the late 1890's until it closed in the 1950's.
